Hotblox M323

Novel ablative ceramic for thermal protection systems.

Key Material Characteristics:

  • Efficient near net shape production of complex parts.
  • At 800 °C, the material begins to ablate not allowing the temperature to rise above 800 °C.
  • During ablation the dimensions of the material are retained.
Key Tests Performed:
  • Heat flux of 350 W/cm2 for 30 seconds during a LHMEL test at Wright Patterson Air Force base.

Experimental solid-state ablative material for use in sensitive and enclosed environments where the evolution of gasses or liquids, typical of traditional ablative materials, can not be tolerated.
